Fashion As Art

Out and about in Big D downtown took Spexy Lady to the absolutely fab Fashion Talk by FIT (Fashion Institute of Technology)Costume Museum curator Dr. Valerie Steele. Sponsors of this Easter Saturday evening affair were FDLuxe and The Fashionistas...THE group to join if you love fashion and want to support up-and-coming fashion stars emerging from the surrounding fashion schools.

Our well-dressed group got a peek preview of Dr. Steele's upcoming exhibit on design sensation Isabel Toledo. You may remember, Toledo created Michelle Obama's stunning citron-colored ensemble for her husband's inauguration.I've already circled the date on my calendar for the June 17th FIT museum opening of "Toledo & Toledo," a retrospective of Isabel Toledo's innovative designs and her husband, Ruben Toledo's art.(See Ruben's sketch of Isabel, right.)

Isabel can't sketch we're told, so Ruben interprets Isabel's vision into the wonderful sketches for her collections. BTW...Ruben Toledo is behind those whimsical sketches we see in the Nordstrom's ads. What a romantic couple they are...gorgeous, artistic, terribly in love, and truly a dynamic duo in the fashion arena. Together they make art together.

June's just around the corner, and I'll be first in line to be enthralled. Look for me at 26th and Broadway on June 17 at The Costume Museum at FIT.

Have a spex-tacular weekend in the City!
