A MOUNTAIN OF CHOCOLATE

What could be more fun than chocolate, lots of it, and lessons from one of the world's best chocolate pastry chefs, Francois Payard.

In the spirit of adventure...and honoring SL's (aka Spexy Lady) New Year's resolution to have fun, it was off to Beaver Creek this winter for Bon Appetite's Master Chef Classic and indulging in serious gastronomic delights. Day one took us to favorite BC haunt, the Golden Eagle and some classic Colorado fare. Day two called for a journey up Bachelor Gulch to join snow-shoe afficianados for lunch with Chicago's top chef and owner of Girl And A Goat. Hess vineyards came out to share their select Hess chardonnays. Day 3 gave us chocolate heaven with Chef Payard, lessons in making the perfect chocolate cake and all the chocolate trimmings and ribbons. Closing out the day at the Ritz with a feast from some of America's best chefs left us in a true food coma...after an hour of endless bites, sips and savoring, SL left on the bus down the mountain home to The Chateau to curl up for the night with a Movie on Demand.

Day four required working off all those calories with a snow shoe hike out the doors of the Ritz, but not before grabbing a quick bite at Spago with all the beautiful people. Breathing in that crisp mountain air, gazing on snow-capped peaks, captures all that is good about Colorado...
and even better, recalling beautiful memories when ski season beckoned friends and family to the house near the pond.

All too soon, the big AA bird flew me home the next day at the crack of dawn to reality.

Until next ski season...
